The McMinn County Cherokees and the McMinn Central Chargers combined forces Monday evening in an attempt to defeat the Cleveland swim team but were unsuccessful as the Blue Raiders won their second league victory by a combined score of 174-131.
Cleveland posted four double winners led by Mark Garaguso’s 100 fly (59.84) and 500 free (5:31.00). Brittny Bryant won the 100 back (1:11.69) and 500 free (5:58.88), Bri Foley finished first in the 200 IM (2:28.09) and Will Borst took the top spot in the 200 free (2:05.26) and 100 breast (1:11.63). Other CHS winners were Sierra Smith 200 free with a time of 2:17.57, Christian Torbett 200 IM (2:35.72), Matt Huff 100 back (1:11.47).
Adding scoring depth with second place finishes were Nicole Hayes 200 free (2:29.88) and 100 fly (1:14.60), Timothy Davis 200 IM (2:47.93), Sean Moran 50 free (27.22), Bella Plate 200 IM (2:48.19) and 100 back (1:13.94), Matt Huff 100 fly (1:01.52), Meryn Evans 100 free (1:10.00), Bristol Snyder 50 free (29.81) and 100 breast (1:28.84). Other swimmers scoring points were Hannah Mitchell, Katherine Plate and Sebastian Davenport.
Mark Garaguso and Matt Huff qualified for the State Championship in the 100 fly, making the count 13 events qualified for by CHS swimmers.
The Blue Raiders will see action again on Nov. 16 as they host Lenoir City in a dual meet at Raider pool at 6 p.m.
