Doris Cofer

Doris Cofer, 91, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday morning, June 9, 2009, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, who were her caregivers.

She was born in Birchwood on June 28, 1917, the daughter of the late Thomas J. Gross and Stella Pierce Gross.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Brayton Cofer; grandson, Matthew Cofer; sister, Inez Boyd; and a brother, Paul Gross.

She attended Brainerd United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her son, Bud Cofer and his wife, Madelaine, of Cleveland; three grandchildren: Laura Champagney of Greenback, Michael Cofer of Knoxville and Leigh-Anne Touzeau of Knoxville; four great-grandchildren; sister, Irene Rushbridge of Rossville, Ga.; brother, Willard Gross of Trussville, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.

A Remembrance of Life graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2009, at Greenwood Cemetery in Chattanooga. The eulogy will be given by her son, Bud Cofer, and granddaughter, Laura Champagney. Those wishing to attend should meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Thursday.

The North Ocoee Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
