James 'J.E.' Penney Jr.

Dr. James E. "J.E." Penney Jr., 89, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2009, in a local health care facility.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church.

He was a well-known dentist in this area, a veteran of the U.S. Army and received the EAME Theater Ribbon with four Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster and the Silver Star Badge.

Although a very private person, he was a much loved and respected member of the community. He touched so many lives and was known for being so gentle and caring and appreciated his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. Penney Sr. and Jessie Penney; wife, Julia Alma Jane Penney who passed away in 2007; daughter, Emily Penney Blake and husband, Robert Blake.

Survivors include his daughter, Julie Penney Boyd; one grandchild, Justin Boyd and wife, Niki; two great-grandchildren: Sawyer Davis Boyd and Finn Beckett Boyd, all of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2009, in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Rev. Marshall Roberson officiating.

Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with military honors.

A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
