Howard Foster Fulton

Howard Foster Fulton, 96, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, in Cleveland.

He was a communicant of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Cleveland.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mary Frances Foster and James Howard Fulton; one sister, Jean Fulton Dixon; and three brothers: John Casselman Fulton, William Charles Fulton, and Robert Donald Fulton.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Ethel Evelyn Leith Fulton; one son, James Howard Fulton, of Decatur, Ga.; two daughters: Margaret Fulton Busbin and her husband, John, of Rome, Ga., and Judith Fulton Varnell, of Cleveland; two sisters: Catherine Fulton Martin and her husband, Lynton, and Anne Fulton Sullivan and her husband, James; grandchildren: Mary Angela Rhodes, Shelley Rhodes Heckenberg and Scott, Jodi Rhodes Jones and Jason, Kate Rhodes Garmon and Kevin, Marny Varnell Birkitt and John, Robert Wayne Varnell III, Kristin Marie Montelione Fulton, Megan Montelione Fulton; and seven great-grandchrildren.

He was born in Chesterville, Ontario, Canada, on Jan. 17, 1913, and graduated from Queen's University in 1936 with a degree in chemical engineering. For 40 years, he worked in the newspaper production industry, retiring from Bowaters Southern Inc., in the 1970s. He was a past member of the Lion's Club, Cherokee Plungers and Hedgers, and the Cleveland Country Club.

The family will receive friends Monday, June 15, 2009, from 1 until 2:30 in the parish hall at St. Luke's. The funeral will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church at 2:30 with the Rev. Perry Scruggs officiating.

Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens with Harrison Brown, Kevin Garmon, Scott Heckenberg, Jason Jones, Tony Schlaeger, and Robert Varnell serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are the members of The Cherokee Plungers and Hedgers.
