Jessie Laverne Pigg

Jessie Laverne Pigg, 83, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Friday, June 12, 2009, in a local health care facility.

She was a member of the North Cleveland Church of God where she was a member of the Unity Sunday school class. She was retired from the Bradley County School System where she worked in the cafeteria.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. John W. Pigg; parents, Jesse and Molly Jones; one son, Larry Mashburn; sister, Margaret Valentine; granddaughter-in-law, Amy Griffey Pigg; grandson, Chuck Pigg; and nephew, Chris White.

Survivors include one stepdaughter and her husband, Sarah and Jimmy Hughes, Cleveland; three stepsons and wives: John and Carolyn Pigg, Steve and Brenda Pigg, all of Cleveland, and Charles and Brenda Pigg, of Plano, Texas; one sister, Dorothy White, Dalton, Ga.; seven grandchildren: Kim Mashburn Mizell, Alicia Hughes, Shannin Peterson, Cotrina Pigg, David Pigg, Mike Pigg and Scott Pigg; 10 great-grandchildren; and cousins: Janice Allen, Betty Geren and Terry Curtis.

The funeral will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, June 15, 2009, at Grissom Funeral Home with Pastor Mitch Maloney and the Rev. Cecil Guiles officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Unity Sunday school class.

Interment will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the North Cleveland Church of God Building Fund.
