On Thursday morning, Sept. 28, the Colonel Benjamin Cleveland Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, of Cleveland, presented one its first five First Responder Awards. These awards are presented annually to the individual who exemplifies the highest quality service in their field. This first award, presented to Captain Micah Akins of the Cleveland Fire Department, was presented by Bob George, past president of the Benjamin Cleveland Chapter SAR. Over his 19-year career with the Department, Akins has advanced through the ranks of engineer, lieutenant and now captain. He has demonstrated his outstanding abilities on and off duty. One of his more heroic efforts came when recently at his son’s basketball games, a referee collapsed on the court. more
