Mr. George “G.W.” Carver, age 84 of Calhoun, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Tennova Healthcare in Cleveland. He was born in Polk County, TN and spent the majority of his life in Polk County. He was a member of Chestuee Baptist Church and a lifelong member of the Democratic Party; and he was retired from Bowater Corporation after 33 years and G.W. served as Union President and a Representative of Local 653 of the Paper Workers Union. more

William L. Huff, 75, a resident of McDonald, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018 in a local hospital. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Chattanooga, where he was involved with the Christian Life Sunday School Class and worked with the missionary field. Mr. Huff was retired from the United States Navy, where he received the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, National Defense Service Medal, Presidential Unit Commendation, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He was the business owner of Huff’s Truck Service and Huff’s Small Engine Repair. more

Arron Lark McDonald, 42, of Benton, passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at Starr Regional Medical Center in Athens. He loved going to church and visits from friends. more
Carl F. Petty, 58, a well-known Cleveland attorney, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018. He grew up at Tybee Island, GA, Columbia, SC and Walterboro, SC, where as a teenager he developed a passion for Quarter Horse racing. He quit school at 17 to become a professional horse trainer, but financial realities soon required him to earn a living wage. At 20 he became general manager of a new Quincy’s Steakhouse in Murfreesboro, TN where he met his wife, Susan. He moved back to Columbia with Susan to attend USC and during that time worked as Maitre D’ at Forest Lake Country Club. They eventually moved to Susan’s hometown in TN and Carl received a BS Cum Laude in Criminal Justice from UT Chattanooga in 1987 and a Juris Doctor from UT Knoxville in 1991. He practiced law in the Cleveland TN area from 1991 to the time of his death and served as Assistant District Attorney General in the 10th Judicial District from 1996-2001. more
