An anonymous donation has brought the William Hall Rodgers Christmas Basket Fund closer to its goal of $28,000.

A Christmas gift of $5,000 helped bring the total fund donations to $22,511. The total is still approximately $5,500 away from what is needed to pay for the boxes.

On Dec. 21, some 1,100 boxes of food staples were given to needy families in the community. The funds to fill those boxes were given by volunteers and individuals in the community who want to help others.

The boxes contained a baking hen, flour, bread, potatoes, canned goods and more to help put food on the tables of less fortunate members of our community.

Among those giving to the fund are anonymous, $5,000; Barbara Houser, $50; Dearmond and Jones, DDS, PC, $250; James and Carolyn Williams, $50; Tennessee Valley Falcons Chapter, FCA, $150; Terry and Sandy Henry, $25; and in honor of Drs. Byrd, Viser and McCarley, $270.

Donations may be mailed to First Tennessee Bank, P.O. Box 4880, Cleveland TN 37320-4880 or dropped off at First Tennessee Bank at 3870 Keith St.
