It is never too late to change the course of your life, according to Danny Cahill.

Cahill was a contestant on NBC’s “The Biggest Loser” in 2009. In seven weeks, he lost 239 pounds or 56 percent of his total body weight. He holds the record for the most consecutive weeks on the show with double-digit weight loss.

Cahill will be the speaker on Sunday, Feb. 10, during the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. services at South Cleveland Church of God.

Cahill said he had a weight problem throughout his childhood. “Why was I chosen to be fat?

“My weight was my enemy, tormenting me for years,” he said.

In his 15th year, Cahill found a motivation for losing weight — girls. He lost 75 pounds that summer in what he now realizes was the wrong, unhealthy way to lose weight.

“I felt like there was nothing that was impossible or out of my reach,” he said.

He became a rock musician and honed his skills to become a “young man with a promising career in music.”

Cahill said he became “comfortable” with his life after meeting and proposing to his wife, Darci.

He said he felt like he needed to settle down and start a “responsible life.” After giving up his music, he fell into depression and began to eat. At his heaviest, Cahill said he weighed 458 pounds.

He said the “spiral” downward ended when his 7-year-old daughter told him she wanted to be just like him — “I want a belly just like yours.” He realized she was following his example and sneaking food.

After attending a seminar, he began to “re-establish” his dream by writing songs. And, he began to put his life in order.

One evening he watched “The Biggest Loser” for the first time.

Cahill told his wife, “I think I could do well on that show.” He applied for season five; however, it was not until season eight that Cahill was given a spot on the show.

“I broke several records on the show including the longest streak of double-digit weight losses in the history of the show, the first in history to lose more than 200 pounds before the finale, the most lost in the history of the show and the highest percentage of body weight ever lost on the show,” Cahill said.

“All the things that I had overcome in life before the show ... were overcome using the same principles I used on the show to conquer my weight problem and win ‘The Biggest Loser.’ I discovered that by using these principles in any goal, that goal becomes attainable, any problem becomes solvable and any dream becomes livable.”

Cahill said he feels “it is my mission to inspire and motivate every person I meet to become the champions they are capable of being.”

The public is invited to hear Cahill in this service.

South Cleveland Church of God is located at 1846 Volunteer Drive, off APD 40.
