Beginning with the prophecies of Isaiah and moving through all of the essential elements of the story of Christ’s birth, music was chosen to accompany all of these moments of history, and appropriate choreography was then developed. The casting for “Nativity” includes dancers from ages 6 through 18. The music is a compilation of selections from different artists and different types of music. Gatlin said, “Some of the melodies are old favorites, but there are also choices that aren’t typically Christmas in nature, but that definitely work to ‘dance the story.’”
Choreographer for “Nativity” is Monica Coates Ellison. Ellison is lead ballet Instructor at Cleveland City Ballet, and this is her third year to present “Nativity.” She has a degree in dance from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, and a number of years of professional experience in New York. This is her first complete ballet creation.
Act Two will be a montage of Christmas songs that will kick off your holiday season in great style. Patti Greco, Leah Green, Chelsey Kimsey and Tiffany Mitchell, CCB jazz, tap, and acro Instructors, have choreographed several jazz and tap numbers for the students of CCB. These selections are very popular with young dancers and their parents. “We believe that our younger dancers should have the experience and the joy of being a part of a production such as this, and we are delighted to be able to spotlight their efforts,” Gatlin said.
This Christmas production is open to all students in Ballet I and up, and participation is optional. Students are not required to purchase a costume, thus making the process less cumbersome for parents.
