On Tuesday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the wellness tour will make a stop in Cleveland at the Walgreens on 25th Street N.W.
Free health tests to measure cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, body mass index, body composition, skeletal muscle, resting metabolism, visceral fat, real body age and body weight will be offered, a spokesman said.
The health tests are available to anyone 18 or older.
Grace Hatcher, one of the three people coming to Cleveland on the health tour, said, “It’s (screenings) really just a starting point.”
If any of the tests have results that cause concern, then a printout of the results are given to the person so they can take them with them to a health care professional.
“I’ve always been interested in health, fitness and well-being,” Hatcher said in an interview. “It’s really nice to be able to help people on a daily basis.”
The three traveling wellness promoters will be joined by two local people to assist with the health tests.
“The tour is dedicated to providing accessible, affordable resources for prevention and early detection of chronic diseases — heart disease, cancer and diabetes,” the spokesman said.
Hatcher said although the health tests are available to anyone, the program focuses on being available in areas where people may not be able to afford health care.
All those who participate in the free health test will receive a free year membership to AARP.
This gift is transferrable, if the participant does not meet the age qualification for membership.
