MADISONVILLE — The second-seeded Polk County boys hit a brick wall in Sequoyah on Monday night as the two teams battled it out for a shot at the District 5-AA championship.

According to Wildcat assistant coach Matt Allen the game started off with a lead-off walk to the Chiefs’ first batter and went downhill from there, ending in a 10-0 thumping as top-seeded Sequoyah cranked a trio of home runs.

@:Chief starter Forrest McCain three-hit the Polk batters and went five strong to grab the complete game shutout.

Collin Wimberley laced a double, while Justin Brown and Matt Hammonds each singled for the only Polk County hits.

The Wildcats and Chiefs both finished the regular season district race with 7-1 marks, splitting their two meetings.

Polk isn’t out for the count just yet. It faces a third-seeded Meigs County team that is coming off a 14-5 shellacking of McMinn Central Monday, in the loser’s bracket final tonight at 5 in Benton.

A lot will be riding on the game. In addition to a chance at Sequoyah in the district championship, the winning team will also gain a berth in the Region 3-AA tournament.
