NIOTA — The Walker Valley golf teams headed north on Interstate 75 Thursday and were able to capture two more District 5-AAA victories at the Springbrook Golf Club.

Shooting a 2-over-par round is very good for a single golfer, but the Mustangs were able to do it as a team to get past host McMinn County 146-153. The Lady Mustangs accepted a forfeit as the Lady Cherokees have just one player this season.

Walker Valley will return to the links Tuesday with a trip to Brown Acres to face East Hamilton.

Senior Jordan Leggett and sophomore Corey Rollins led the Mustang charge at Springbrook, firing 1-under-par 35s in the half-round play.

Sophomore Dylan Lillard helped out with a 1-over 37, while coach Bob Williams had his choice of 3-over 39s from juniors Kyle Limberg and Ira Lee to round out the Walker Valley score.

McMinn County’s Cody Housley matched the low score of the day with a 1-under 35, while Tanner Harris and Dylan Leamon had 39s and Jake Cook a 40 for coach Jerry Quirk’s Cherokee tally.

Freshman Kelsey Cassada took low-medalist honors for the girls with a 4-over 40, while senior Katie Bishop and sophomore Katie Medley both shot 43s and senior Kassey Gregg had a 44.

Lone Lady Cherokee Haley Johnson carded a 46.
