MURFREESBORO — The 2013 Spring Fling came to a close Friday evening with all three local high schools represented in the boys track finals.
Cleveland had athletes competing in the boys 4x800 meter relay, the high jump and the discus throw, while Walker Valley was represented in the 100 meter dash. Bradley Central had runners in the 800 meter, the 1600 meter and the 3200 meter run.
On Thursday, Justin Ware’s time of 11 seconds flat in the 100 meter dash preliminaries was just enough to earn him eighth place and a spot in Friday’s finals. Ware shaved two milliseconds off of his prelim time to earn a medal, finishing in seventh place with a new time of 10.98 seconds in the finals.
Bradley Central’s Harold Smith claimed a seventh-place podium spot in the 800 meter final, coming in with a time of 1:58.22. Smith also competed in the 1600 meter race, but his time of 4:29.61 put him one spot outside of eighth place.
Paul Patterson represented the Bears in the 3200 meter race, finishing 10th with a time of 9:56.94.
Bradley Central triple jumper DeShawn McCleary came in 14th place in state triple jump competition with a jump of just over 42 feet, 3 inches.
Unfortunately for the Raiders, none of their performances merited a top eight finish at the state finals.
Cleveland’s 4x800 relay team finished 16th with a time of 8:52.66.
Dalton Mcdonald’s discus throw of just over 131 feet gave him an 11th place finish, while Reeves Morgan came in 13th in the high jump after clearing six feet. The first place high jumper, K.J. Carothers out of Collierville, cleared a 6-foot, 8-inch jump.
Both Bradley Central and Walker Valley’s teams finished in the top 50 in the Spring Fling competition, with a four-way tie for 46th along with Clarksville and Hamilton.
