The Raleigh, N.C., Police Department has arrested three suspects in the death of Melissa Dawn Huggins-Jones, a former Cleveland resident whose body was discovered in her apartment last week.

According to Jim Sughrue of the Raleigh Police Department, the three suspects in custody are 23-year-old Ronald Lee Anthony Jr., 18-year-old Sarah Rene Redden and 20-year-old Travian Devonte Smith. A news release distributed by Sughrue said there were no connections between Huggins-Jones and the suspects prior to the case.

According to Sughrue, the investigation is continuing.

The trio are being held in the Wake County Detention Center and were reportedly scheduled for an initial court appearance today.

Huggins-Jones, 30, was found dead in her apartment Tuesday, May 14, by her 8-year-old daughter. She was reportedly “... covered in blood on a bed inside her apartment,” according to published reports by North Carolina media sources.

Huggins-Jones’ daughter reportedly found her mother around 7:30 a.m. and asked a construction worker nearby for help. The construction worker called 911 and told the dispatcher he would stay in the room until first responders arrived, according to the taped conversation.

Mother and daughter had just moved to the area two weeks earlier. Huggins-Jones had transferred with First Tennessee to serve as a branch manager.

Bank officials said Huggins-Jones had served as a First Tennessee employee for more than 10 years. Mike Griffin of First Tennessee said she was transferred to manage branch business.

Her Facebook account was reportedly deleted the Saturday before her death. According to reports by Raleigh news station WRAL-TV, investigators with the Raleigh Police Department filed a search warrant for Huggins-Jones’ Facebook records.

Investigators have not released information on the cause of Huggins-Jones’ death.

She was originally from Elizabethtown, N.C.

Huggins-Jones had recently divorced from her husband. Her daughter and 12-year-old son are reportedly in the care of family members.
