Sisters Siera Jensen and Lisa Cheney and Elders Cody Houghton and Jordan Shurtlett are now working in the community.
Jensen, who has just started her missionary journey, is from Downing, Idaho. She plans to go to college after completing her mission quest.
She hopes to make friends and learn to love people by sharing with them Christ’s message.
“I can do anything with the Lord’s help,” she said. “If I know He is with me, I know it is possible.”
For the last 14 months, Cheney has been fulfilling her mission in the Knoxville and Maryville areas. From Bountiful, Utah, she plans to attend Brigham Young University and do family studies.
“I want to work in adoptions,” she said.
During her mission, she has learned about “emotional stress .. and how you can help other people. How to filter through everything and find what is most important.”
She noted, “I know the Father and who He wants me to be.”
She has become stronger as “I studied the scriptures and what I believe.”
Houghton from Vernal, Utah, is a recent graduate from high school. After he completes his mission, he hopes to return to school to find work in law enforcement.
From this mission, Houghton hopes to “be able to connect with people. I am willing to sit down and talk to you.”
He said he remembers that “things happen in the Lord’s time, not mine. ... I am remembering taht the Lord is most important and that he will help me accomplish” things in life.
Shurtlett is from Orem, Utah. He has been on his mission for about two months.
He worked at an oil company and save money so he could come on his mission. When he concludes his mission, he plans to attend college and go into mechanical engineering.
He said one of the things he has learned while on his mission is “how dependent on the Lord and his Holy Spirit” he is.
“I know He has a plan and I want to accomplish it,” he said. “It’s a lot to handle. You really have to humble yourself.
“You have to center everything around Jesus Christ — that is what it is all about,” he said.
The local LDS church is located at 4200 Pryor Drive. Services are held on Sunday, beginning at 98 a.m. Sunday school is at 10 a.m.
