According to the Tennessee Alcohol and Beverage Commission, the same has happened to American Legion Post 81, following an investigation that was initiated in August 2013.
Joshua Stepp, legal counsel for TABC, said the investigation has concluded and the Legion post was fined $1,200 for four violations that were discovered when the investigation began Aug. 20, 2013.
Stepp said the four violations were all for possession of gambling devices.
“The fines have been settled,” Stepp said.
On April, 25, 2013, Stepp said TABC officials initiated an investigation at the VFW post and also found violations regarding the state’s gambling laws.
Stepp confirmed VFW Post 2598 was fined $15,000 and told the Banner earlier this week the case is currently “in litigation.”
“It is an ongoing matter,” Stepp told the Banner. “We typically do not talk about ongoing matters and those that are in legal proceedings.”
He did confirm there has been no action taken against the post at this time, pending the litigation.
“It will be up to the judge to determine whether the fine remains as is and [any decisions] about any further actions,” Stepp said.
