An accident between an ATV and a pickup truck Friday night sent a local man to a Chattanooga hospital.

According to Bradley County Emergency Medical Services Public Information Supervisor Stan Clark, the accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Chestuee Road.

When emergency medical crews responded to the scene they discovered the accident involved a four-wheeler and a pickup truck.

The driver of the ATV, Cleveland Police Officer Jeff Griggs, sustained serious injuries.

Griggs’ injuries required transport to a level-one trauma unit. He was airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga via AirEvac helicopter.

As of 3 p.m. Saturday, Erlanger Medical officials confirmed Griggs remained hospitalized and was in stable condition.

The driver of the pickup was not seriously injured.

The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office and Bradley County Fire Rescue also responded to the scene.

BCSO Traffic Investigator Mario Santos is in charge of the investigation.
