He was the youngest child of David and Rachel Wender, who came to this country from Lithuania in 1904.
He graduated with honors from UTK with a degree in business. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Following his military service he worked as a credit union examiner and later became owner and operator of Apler’s Shoe Store in the downtown Cleveland area. Upon retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife and attending the Silver Sneakers exercise class at the local YMCA with his good friend, Q.L. Hixson.
He was preceded in death by one brother and five sisters.
He was survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Freda A. Wender (Reece); children by marriage: William C. Price and Russell and Rhonda Curry, and their children, Christopher, Kathryn and Karen Curry; one nephew and spouse, Irwin and Barbara Schreiner and their children and grandchildren Tobey and Paige, Carly and Mary Schreiner and Samara and Hannah Schreiner.
A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. today, March 30, 2012, at B’nai Zion Cemetery in Chattanooga.
Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
