She was the daughter of the late Margaret Evans Carney and John Carney. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul Guy Short; son, Paul Alfred Short; sister, Mary Wertzburger; and brother, Johnny Carney.
She was retired from Red Food/Bi-Lo Supermarkets with more than 15 years of service. At the time of her retirement she was manager of the deli/bakery at one of the Chattanooga locations.
She loved being a grandmother and enjoyed cooking for her family and going to the mountains with her husband. She was an avid bird watcher. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her two daughters: Ginger Short of Dalton, Ga., and Shelly Short of Athens; grandchildren: Jessica Miles and Chattman Easterday, both of Athens; brother, Larry Carney and his wife, Deborah, of Akron, Ohio; sisters: Betty Davis and her husband, Jesse, Linda Johnson and her husband, Kenneth, all of Georgetown; and several nieces and nephews.
A Remembrance of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at the Wildwood Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Rev. Ronnie Ledford officiating.
Interment will follow in the Chattanooga Memorial Park Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the service time at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the Barbara Ann Short Memorial Fund, in care of Tennessee Valley Credit Union.
