The boxes of food staples from the William Hall Rodgers Christmas Basket Fund were given out on Saturday to more than 700 families.

However, the fund to pay for the food items is still short a little more than $4,000 of the $24,000 goal. The donations since Wednesday are $2,498 to bring the total to $19,739.45.

The boxes were given out Saturday at the Tri-State Warehouse. The boxes include potatoes, baking hens, bread, candy and other staple items that can be used in multiple meals during the holiday.

Donations will continue to be accepted through the end of the year.

Donations have been received this week from David and Virginia Rollins, $50; N.C. and Betty Cartwright, $100; David and Ellen Smith, $500; in memory of Randall Fisher by Judith Fisher, $500; Elbert and Alma Schrader, $30; Robert and Nancy O’Bannon, $30; GB and Marjorie Lee, $30; E.
