Southeastern Football Rivals will be the host for a Cleveland vs. Bradley Central alumni football game tonight at Bear Stadium at Bradley Central.
The gates will open at 6 p.m. and kickoff will take place at 7:30. Presale tickets are available at the high school and throughout the Cleveland community as well as at the gate. Tickets are $10, children 5 years old and younger are free.
Proceeds form the game will go to support the Cleveland High School and Bradley Central High school football programs.
The game will give members of the Bears and Blue Raiders teams who never got to participate in the once-heated rivalry the chance to finally butt heads with their cross-town rival.
According to the SFR website, “Everyone has their own memories from Friday nights in the pads. Whether it's the click clack of cleats on a locker room floor, the feeling of sliding that helmet on just before running out for kickoff or the rush after laying that big hit.”
The full-contact game will be coached by Blue Raiders head coach Ron Crawford and Bears head coach Damon Floyd, who will also be suited up for action with the Bradley alumni team. Floyd, a former Bear, played his college football at UTC.
The game will be played by all-star rules in four, 15-minute quarters. Teams may only play two coverages in the secondary and cannot blitz linebackers, a rule many of the alumni linemen will be grateful for.
Bears and Raiders signing up for the game payed $100 for the chance to knock heads with former rivals. The fee included insurance and equipment provided by SFR.
Southeastern Football Rivals coordinated with team leaders from each side to organize the event. Once the specified number of players from each team signed up, the game was considered official and the planning started. SFR provided presale tickets that will be sold up until game time.
