MARYVILLE — A dozen Bradley Central wrestlers placed, including six claiming championships, at the annual Region 3 Junior Varsity Tournament over the weekend at Heritage High School in Maryville.
Of the nine weight classes the Bears entered, two had Bradley teammates squaring off in the title match — Chris Price claimed the 132-pound crown over mat partner Donnie Beyer, while Shogun Flowers got a forfeit from teammate Taylor Mantooth in the 113-pound finale.
Heavyweight DJ Adams put three opponent’s shoulder to the mat, plus posted a technical fall over another on his way to the 285-pound title.
Hunter Parker was the top 126-pounder in the event, while Stephen Scott and Chris Sliger captured the 138- and 145-pound championships respectively.
Brett Brown and Corey Bandy earned runner-up medals at 152 and 160, while Spencer Dailey brought home third place in the 160-pound division. Tyshawn Chapman rounded out a dozen Bear medalist with a fourth place at 170.
“I’m really proud of these guys. They worked hard to earn the medals,” praised Bradley head coach Ben Smith. “We had good overall effort and fight. We still have a long way to go and a lot of work to do . The future is looking bright, though.
“Several schools entered some of their varsity guys into this competition to gain experience,” coach Smith added. “We did not, and still won six championships out of the nine weight classes that we entered.”
The Bear dozen advance to the JV Area Championship on Feb. 5.
