The Bradley Central Bears had a tough go of it on the baseball diamond Friday and Saturday dropping two of three games with Tullahoma, Franklin County and Saint Mary’s.

Friday evening saw the Bears drop a close 4-3 decision to the Wildcats of Tullahoma before winning Saturday against Franklin, 5-3. Bradley Central closed out the weekend stretch with another decision that went to Saint Mary’s by a score of 3-1.

Chandler Duggan got the scoring started for the Bears Friday against the Tullahoma ’Cats with a double that was followed by a walk by Caleb Pace. A bases loaded walk scored Duggan and Pace crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Hunter Rogers.

Tullahoma responded in the fourth with an opening single and double. The Wildcats later scored on a wild pitch. Another wild pitch put a runner in scoring position and a single put Tullahoma out front 3-2.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Wildcats made it a 4-2 game on a single and passed ball.

Kyler Lynn opened the Bears’ top of the seventh with a single. Two outs later, a Duggan single and Austin Calfee walk loaded the bases. The Bears made it 3-2 when a run came home on a passed ball.

On the night, the Bears left 13 runners stranded on the pads.

Saturday, the Bears made up for the Friday loss with a 2-1 win over the Franklin Rebels.

Chandler Hamilton picked up the win for Bradley wit Gunner Norwood earning a save.

Jacob Barnes opened the fourth inning for the Bears with a double and later scored on a single off the bat of Rogers who later scored on a Duggan single. Cal Pickel kept the inning alive with a hit in front of a Franklin error that scored the second Bears’ run.

The Rebels made it a 2-1 game in the bottom of the inning with a double, walk, wild pitch and double steal.

In the Bears’ half of the seventh, Calfee started it off with a single in front of a Baylor Terrell walk. Barnes followed with a single to load the bases. A walk to Lynn brought Calfee across. A second walk made it a 5-2 ballgame.

Franklin added one more run in the bottom of the inning before the Bears slammed the door on the win.

The Bears closed out the weekend with a 3-1 loss to the Saint Mary’s Vikings of Paducah, Ky.

The Vikings scored first in the bottom of the first on a two-out hit that led to an RBI single.

Saint Mary’s took a 2-1 lead on the third with a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly.

The Bears got on the board in the top of the sixth when Terrell led off with a walk and Rogers was hit by a pitch. Jordan Timmons reached on a fielder’s choice in front of a double steal that plated Terrell.

The Vikings locked up the game in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single after a Bradley walk.

“”Our starting pitchers performed well but we missed a lot of opportunities in all three games to score runners,” said Bears coach Travis Adams. “We actually out hit all three teams, we just didn’t get the big hit when we needed it.”

The Bears get back into District 5-AAA baseball Monday at home against Soddy-Daisy. The first pitch is set for 7 p.m.
