Despite not getting a chance to play in nine days, the Bradley girls came out hitting on all cylinders, ripping their home nylon for more points in the opening period than the visitors did the entire night.

“It was good to get our wheels spinning again,” declared Bearette head coach Jason Reuter. “With a lay off you worry about not hitting on all cylinders, but we came out strong and picked back up where we left off (before the break).”

Shooting better than 70 percent from the field in the opening half, Bradley built up a 28-6 advantage at the first horn and then added a 22-5 run in the second period for a 39-point halftime edge.

With a “running clock” the second half, Soddy (5-7, 1-8 District 5-AAA) was able to out score the hosts 11-7 in the third period, but momentum swung back to the Black-and-Gold for a 16-2 final frame run.

Bradley’s 6-ft-2 “Twin Towers” were in top form combining for 41 points, 16 rebounds, 14 assists and eight blocked shots.

Middle Tennessee signee Rebecca Reuter just missed a triple-double with 17 points, 9 rebounds, 11 assists and a half a dozen block shots. Brooke Copeland, who is headed to the University of Florida, led all scores with 24 points while grabbing seven caroms, three steals, a trio of assists and a pair of blocks.

Freshman Emma Kate Brown continued her excellent play with a dozen points including a pair of “long-range” bombs.

Halle Hughes, another ninth grader, helped out with six points and three helps while Mady Stallings added five points. Junior point guard Chelsie Summars didn’t score, but caught five thefts and dished out four “dimes.”

As a team, Bradley made 22 of 34 from in front of the 19-foot arc and went 5 for 15 behind it. They also made 11 of 15 free throws. The Bearettes out-rebounded the visitors 33 to 25, took advantage of 19 Lady Trojan turnovers and handed out 24 assists on 29 made shots.

“It was a good all around game. We are playing the way we want to be playing with the district tournament just a week and a half away,” Reuter said.

Much like their female counterparts, the Bears came out strong and were able to claw away at the Trojans in their 19-point District 5-AAA win Saturday night.

Bradley got a running start in the first quarter, as they outscored Soddy-Daisy 21-11.

The Trojans were able to come back in the second, making things a good deal closer after scoring 15 points to the Bears’ 10 points.

With only a 31-26 lead to start off the second half, Bradley’s defensive effort was ramped up for the remainder of the game.

Soddy was only able to score another nine points in both the third and fourth, while Bradley went on to score 16 points in the third and fourth quarter.

Daniel Clark led the Bears with 14 points and was 33-percent from behind the arc hitting two of his six 3-point shot attempts.

Taylor Bentley and Bradley McCurdy each scored 10 points and had three assists in the game.

Bentley hit two of his four attempted treys.

Bradley will begin a busy week of basketball on Tuesday when they host Baylor.
