Bill Lee Davis, 78, of Etowah, passed away, Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at Woods Memorial Hospital in Etowah.

He was a son of the late Robert and Joyce Davis. He was also preceded in death by a niece, Monica Davis Frost.

He was a graduate of Etowah High School and was a member of First Baptist Church of Etowah. He served in the United States Marines Corp and was retired from Bowater Paper Mill after 38 years as a superintendent of No. 5 paper machine. He loved woodworking and “fixing things.”

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Joyce Dockins Davis of Etowah; three daughters and son-in-laws: Cindy and Haskell Swafford of Etowah, Debbie and Jim Carver of Athens and Shannon and Terry Bannon of Loudon; three grandchildren: Christopher Swafford, Amanda Allred and Jeffrey Swafford; five great-grandchildren; Avery, Asher, Lily Emelia and Raeleigh; a special brother, Bobby Davis; two sisters; Jeannie King and Margie Hodges; and several other nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at Green Hill Cemetery with Dr. Robert J. Burns officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 today, Oct. 29, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Etowah.

Haskell Swafford, Jim Carver, Terry Bannon, Nick Allred, Christopher Swafford, and Jeffrey Swafford will serve as pallbearers. Jack King, Ed Belk, Robert Bob Myers and Larry Bryan will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family requests no flowers to be sent but contributions be made to First Baptist Church of Etowah library fund or flower fund.

Bordwine Funeral Home of Etowah is in charge of arrangements.
