Bishop W.M. “Tommy” Queener, 67, of Fort Myers, Fla., passed away Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 at the home of his daughter in Cleveland.

He was serving as pastor of the Marion Street Church of God of Prophecy in Fort Myers. He was in Cleveland visiting his children for the holidays.

He was born in Tulsa, Okla., Jan. 23, 1945. He moved to Cleveland at the age of 3. He attended public school in Cleveland, until his sophomore year when he transferred to Tomlinson Memorial School where he graduated. He began his ministry at the age of 16. Cleveland has always been his “home.”

In 1965, while under ministry appointment in Texas, he married Yvonne Medders of Daytona Beach, Fla. During their 47 years of marriage, they ministered in pastoral leadership in the states of Texas, Florida, Alaska, and Kansas. He served as state bishop in Alaska, North Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming over a period of 18 years before resuming pastoral positions.

He was totally committed to serving his Lord and had very little interests that did not involve his passion of ministering and or fellowshipping with his brothers and sisters in the Lord.

He was preceded in death by his parents, D.H. and Rosa Queener, and sister, Sue Queener Davis. He leaves his wife, Yvonne; daughter, LaJuanna (Todd) Bagley, of Cleveland; son Shane (Danita) Queener of Lebanon; granddaughter, Emilei Bagley; grandson, Ethan Bagley, of Cleveland; brother, Glendale (Twila) Queener, of Louisville, Ky.; sisters, Brenda Queener (Frankie) Slawson of Union, Miss.; Virginia Queener (Diz) Smith of DeRidder, La., as well as a host of relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at Spring Place Church of God of Prophecy. He will lie in repose from noon to 1 p.m. at the church.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the North Ocoee St. Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Home.
