Bonnie Mae Green Mabes, 81, of Etowah, died peacefully at her residence on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, surrounded by her family.

She is now in the arms of her Lord and Savior.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Claxton and Coghill communities and was the oldest daughter of the late, Toy and Bertha Lunsford Green.

She retired from Morgan Manufacturing and Lake Ocoee Inn Restaurant. She was a member of Coghill Baptist Church. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxillary to the VFW Post 5146 in Athens.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Lona Housley and Elizabeth Gagnon; two brothers, J.L. and Charles Green; mother-in-law, Sarah “ Granny” Evans; and daughter-in-law, Mary Mabes.

Survivors include her loving husband of 62 years, Arthur Elwood Mabes of Etowah; two daughters and sons-in-law: Winona Howard and her husband, Larry, and Renee Bain and her husband, Jimmy, all of Athens; three sons: Allen Mabes and Keith Mabes of Etowah and Doug and Pam Mabes of Athens; six grandchildren: Lance Howard of Wisconsin, Angie Tate and husband, Adam, Chris Mabes, Beth Mager and husband, Kevin, Timmy Odum, all of Athens and Chelsey Bain of Knoxville; 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Barbara Ann Green of Etowah; and a special couisn, Jean Sopshire of North Carolina.

The family expresses their appreciation to Caris Hospice for their compassionate care.

The funeral was held Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 7 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Home of Etowah with the Revs. Jerry Stephens and Joe Hacher officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 3, 2013, at Coghill Baptist Church Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
