Callaway Bray of Boy Scouts Troop 10 chose the Hiwassee River Heritage Center for his Eagle Scout project. Any Eagle project must be organized by the Scout and must benefit the community. The center was landscaped with new plants, mulch, trimming and removal of dead shrubbery with the help of family, friends and other Scouts. In the new outside seating area are Michael Logan, Bray and Misha Shenberger, all members of Troop 10. Bray is a senior at Walker Valley High School. “It is very encouraging to have a young person like Callaway interested in being part of the development of this heritage center,” said Darlene Goins, treasurer for the Charleston-Calhoun-Hiwassee Historical Society. “We were so pleased when he contacted us.” Work is taking place now in the heritage center to ready it for opening and the eventual addition of exhibits, welcome center materials, archives and meeting space.
