Bradley 4-H’ers participate in livestock shows

Bradley County 4-H members had an eventful week June 23 through 27, at both the State 4-H Horse Championships and the Eastern Region Beef and Sheep Show.

The Eastern Region Beef and Sheep Show was held in Knoxville and five Bradley County youth competed in the contest.

Stephanie Bates, Sydney Brady, Travis Duke, Cole Ledford and Bryan Ownby showed a variety of animals in the different contests.

Cole Ledford won Grand Champion Polled Hereford and Reserve Grand Champion Simmental Percentage.

Sydney Brady won second place with her Fall Angus Calf and second place in Junior High Showmanship.

Travis Duke won first place in his class with his commercial heifer.

Stephanie Bates won second place in her class with her commercial heifer.

Bryan Ownby won Grand Champion with his Simmental Percentage Heifer, Reserve Grand Champion Angus Heifer and second place in Senior Level I Showmanship.

Stephanie Bates also showed sheep in two classes and won second place in one and third place in another. She placed sixth in Junior Showmanship.

The youth also competed in a “Pen of 5” class with their registered heifers and won first place. This Pen of 5 is the first winning pen from Bradley County in at least 15 years. David and Kathy Ownby are the volunteer 4-H leaders of the 4-H Livestock.
