Before the Bradley Central varsity basketball teams claimed important District 5-AAA victories over longtime rival McMinn County, the Bearette and Bear junior varsity squads set the tone with wins.
The Bradley JV girls improved to 7-1 on the season with a 56-25 victory, while the Bear B-team stretched a 13-point halftime lead into a 67-44 win.
A balanced junior Bearette offensive attack was led by Holly Sutton with 10 points, while Taelor Hill netted nine points in the victory. Katie Brown and Abbey Abernathy were right on their heels with eight points apiece.
Four Bears ripped the chords for double figures in the boys win with Bradley McCurdy leading the way with 13 points. Luke Rymer added a dozen, while Tucker Maroon and Ty Morgan pumped in 10 each. Dee Crisp helped out with eight points.
NOTE: The Bradley varsity Bears will open the Maryville Christmas Tournament Wednesday at 7 p.m. agaisnt Campbell County at the Maryville High School gymnasium.
The Bearettes will play defending state champion Fayette County (Ga.) in the opening round of the Upward Classic Thursday afternoon at 2:30 in Spartanburg, S.C.
