COOKEVILLE — The Bradley Central Bears traveled to Cookeville over the weekend to face off against the Cavaliers.

The teams walked off the court Saturday with a split decision, the Bearettes taking their game 59-38, but the boys falling 65-60 in their game.

Bearette play remained strong as they established themselves early and never let the Lady Cavaliers back into the game.

Bradley girls outscored their opponents 18-5 in the first period and never let up, going into the half with a score of 32-19 and finishing at a 59-38 tally.

Kayla Beavers, Caroline Smith and Brooke Copeland led Bearette scoring with 11 points apiece.

Cavaliers 65, Bears 60

It was a hard-fought game on the boys’ side of things, but a nine point second quarter put the Bears in a hole they couldn’t dig themselves out of.

That’s not to say they didn’t try. After finding themselves down 37-25 going into the half the Bradley boys came out with some fire and made a push for the win in the second half.

In fact, the Bears actually outscored the Cavaliers 35-28 in the second half, but despite their best efforts they were unable to overtake the lead, and Cookeville notched their sixth straight win.

Bear scoring was led by Hunter Chastain who netted 17 points in the effort. Bryce Copeland also put 14 points on the board for Bradley.

Bradley will next face off against District 5-AAA and county rival Walker Valley on Tuesday at ‘The Stable.’
