Steven Kirkpatrick and his brother, Jeffrey Kirkpatrick, of Cleveland died in the incident on Lake Louise near Glennallen, Alaska.
Alaska State Troopers received a 911 call from Edwin Curtis, also from Cleveland, at 12:11 p.m, Friday.
Trooper Darrell Christensen responded to the call. According to Christensen’s report, Curtis reported both Steven, 59, and Jeffrey, 56, had fallen out of a 14-foot rental boat on Lake Louise.
Curtis and Rex Calfee, of Charleston, were reportedly able to get Steven to shore within 15 minutes. The two attempted to perform CPR, but without success.
Local Emergency Medical Services providers responded to the call and continued CPR. An AST press release reported all attempts were unsuccessful.
Jeffrey Kirkpatrick’s body was retrieved from the bottom of Lake Louise after reportedly being submerged for approximately 45 minutes. The two brothers were pronounced dead at approximately 1:57 p.m.
According to Christensen, the investigation revealed Steven Kirkpatrick fell overboard after starting the outboard motor. His brother then jumped overboard in an attempt to save him.
Neither was wearing a life vest, according to reports.
