Senior Chris Bryant fired his best half-round of the high school golf season and led Cleveland High to an easy victory Thursday at the Cleveland Country Club.
Bryant was the only golfer to break 40 on the day, shooting a 2-over-par 38 as the Blue Raiders whipped McMinn Central 168-195.
“Chris hit the ball well all day,” praised Cleveland coach Nick Cantrell. “The rest of the scores were a little higher than their averages, but we have played every day this week and need to take the long weekend off.”
The Lady Raiders were also victorious as once again another high school squad had just one female golfer.
Junior Heidi Barringer fired a 42 and Shinduri Vijayakuma carded a 59, while the lone Lady Charger posted a 55.
“Heidi was up and down the entire match,” coach Cantrell related. “She doubled No. 1, but then turned around and birdied No. 2.”
Helping the Raiders to the 27-stroke victory, senior Conner Caprara shot a 41 on the nine holes, while sophomore Tucker Jones was right behind him with a 42. Freshman Allen Swetman rounded out the Cleveland tally with a 47.
