This event, in its second year, is a fundraising gala with proceeds going to the Pat Summit Foundation. The Summit Foundation is dedicated to Alzheimer’s education and research.
The Evening With The Stars fundraising event was the brainchild of Brittany Jackson, former Bradley High School standout and University of Tennessee basketball player. Jackson was a four-year starter for the UT Vols under legendary coach Pat Summit from 2001-2005.
“When Pat was diagnosed with early onset dementia in 2011, I was devastated. Pat taught me so many lessons, not just about basketball, but also about life. She taught me about honor, character, discipline and always giving my all. This event is a way to give back to the coach that I love so much,” explained Jackson.
Last year’s event was a great success, hosted by NFL star Terrell Owens, along with many other NFL, NBA and WNBA players.
Jackson said, “Last year exceeded my expectations for the event, and this year will be even better. I am thrilled to have the support of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and the Ralph Buckner Foundation. It’s caring and community minded business owners, like Ralph and Chari Buckner, that help make this area a great place to live.”
Ralph Buckner Funeral Home is involved in many charitable organizations including the funding of scholarships at Lee University, Cleveland State Community College and The Baylor School in memory of Ralph and Stella Buckner, and Shipley Rose Buckner.
“We are delighted to be a part of this exciting event! Brittany is a wonderful person and an ambassador for the values that Pat Summit teaches her players. We admire and respect Pat Summit and her accomplishments, and are proud be involved, in some small way, as a sponsor,” said Chari Buckner, who serves as the Executive director of the Ralph Buckner Foundation.
Ralph Buckner Jr., CEO of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home concluded, “You never know when tragedy will strike. The form it will take, or the direction it’s coming from, but with the love and support of family and friends it can be managed. Chari and I consider Pat to be a friend, and we stand with her in this battle.
The Evening with the Stars event will be held on Saturday, May 11, at 7 p.m., at the home of Dr. Scott and Angie Hodges. Tickets are still available. To find out more about the event, go to brittanyjacksonbball.com.
