Golf competition is picking up for a new season at Cleveland Country Club. The club recently concluded its ladies’ and mens’ member-member tournaments.
Former state amateur champion Maggie Scott teamed with M.K. Ratterman to win first place in the championship flight of the women’s’ member-member, shooting an 8-under-par 64. Lisa Daubner and Wanda Mayfield took down second place with a 68.
Winning the first-flight title with a 67 were Phylis Tyner and Madelaine Cofer. Donna Anderson and Bev Bales captured second place in the first flight with a 69. Capturing the title in the second flight were Jola Burch and Betty Harper at 72, with Dottie Bryant and Pam Becktold in second place with a 77.
Scott also won the closest-to-the-pin award at the Par-3 ninth hole.
Winning the mens’ championship flight were Ryan Hulton and John Bischof, who combined for a 137. They finished two shots in front of the 139 shot by Bob Rice and Jason Rice. Clarke Taylor and Nick Kinzer finished in third place with a 140.

Second Flight: 144 — Mike Usery and Pudgie Payne. 146 — Joe Markham and Marty Walker (in playoff) with Mark Gravelle and Billy Thacker.
Third Flight: 136 — Art Jordan and Doug Miller. 140 — Dean Patten and Jim Mayfield. 141 — Jim Thompson and John Bryan.
Fourth Flight: 141 — Len Graham and Bill Burch. 143 — Gary Bryant and Mickey Torbett. 145 — Mike Bales and Chuck Blackmon.
Winning closest-to-the-hold and longest-drive awards: No. 6 — Russell Lee (Saturday), Tommy Roe (Sunday). No. 7 — Todd Copic (Saturday), Doug Miller (Sunday). No. 9 — John Underwood (Saturday), Scott McGowan (Sunday). No. 13 — Clint Taylor (Saturday), Mike Zius (Sunday). No. 14 — Jim Mayfield (Saturday), Todd Copic (Sunday).
