The Cleveland Christian School Lady Crusaders stepped out of SCAA volleyball play Thursday night to take on the ladies from Georgia Cumberland Academy in Calhoun, Ga. It was a rare opportunity for Cleveland Christian to take on a non-conference opponent. It proved to be an exciting match from the start, with the first game going back and forth and eventually ending 26-24 in favor of Georgia Cumberland. Georgia Cumberland pulled ahead 25-19, 25-12 in the next two games to win 3-0.

“I truly feel tonight was some of our best volleyball so far this season. We lost to a good, experienced team, so it’s difficult to be too disappointed,” said coach John Mathis after the match.

Good defense was the key to keeping the Crusaders in the match. Jennifer Corbitt had two blocks, one kill and an ace. Savannah Morgan had two digs and a kill. Emily Sexton had two blocks and an ace. Hope Nix had three assists and Acacia Thompson had a block, one dig, one kill and three aces.

Cleveland Christian 3-3 (3-2 SCAA) will return to conference play against Collegedale Tuesday evening with middle school starting at 6 p.m. and varsity following at 7.
