Cleveland & Chattanooga Dance and Performing Arts Centers’ Avant Garde Company won seven national titles at the five-day Encore DCS National Grand Finals competition at the Savannah (Georgia) Civic Center.

CDPAC’s Regional Overall Grand Champions from the Chattanooga and Gatlinburg regional competitions were Brittany Zachman, Olivia Orr, Shelbee Jordan, Caroline Saunders, Lexi Valliere, Ashley Harper and Emily Derrick, who were chosen as performers in the grand finals opening number which was performed throughout the week and will be online on the Encore DCS website all year. Choreographers for the opening number were Christopher Robbins and Hiliarie Covington.

Nisa Hooper, CDPAC executive director, was awarded the 2014 Grand Finals National Petite Choreographer of the Year for “Hear Me Now” out of 300 dances.

CDPAC’s National Champions are Zachman, Elite Petite National Grand Champion Super Soloist for her Acro-Contortion solo, “When You Wish,” and Contemporary Solo Moonlight”; Jordan, Junior National Grand Champion Super Soloist for her lyrical solo, “Smile,” and her Jazz Solo “Poison”; Junior Contemporary: “Red” — Elite Petite Small Group National Grand Champions Dancers: Jordan, Orr, Saunders and Zachman; Junior Acro: “Hallelujah” — Competitive Petite Small Group National Grand Champions Dancers: Madie Hall, Jordan, Orr, Saunders, Caroline Shotts and Zachman; Elite Acro: “Okeano” — Competitive Junior Small Group National Grand Champions Dancers: Derrick, Hall, Harper, Jordan and Valliere; Derrick, Harper and Valliere, “Hey You” — Teen National Grand Champion Rec Duo/Trio; and Derrick and Valliere, “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers” — Teen National Grand Champion Competitive Duo/Trio.

The Avant Garde Company will compete at their second National Finals July 10 through 13 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, at Star Talent Productions against more than 40 dance studios from the East Coast.

CDPAC is owned and operated by Dr. and Mrs. Charles M. Hooper III. All dances were choreographed and created by Hooper. Contributing staff includes assistant director Caitlyn Lynn, Abigail Bowman, Jacob Carrell, Will Linder, Allyson Valliere, Bri Van Horne, Maddie Whittemore, Abbi Cook and teaching assistants Derrick, Harper and Valliere. Studio managers are Lisa Newman for Cleveland and Laura Harper for Chattanooga dance centers.

CDPAC is expanding for the 2014-2015 Season and is accepting resumes for additional staff. Both Cleveland and Chattanooga locations are now enrolling for July summer classes and Summer Technique and Kids’ Camps. Both locations will be open for fall open house and registration on July 26, National Dance Day.
