THE CLEVELAND FIRE DEPARTMENT added seven new personnel to the operations division in August. Currently they are still participating in the department’s “Rookie School.” These classes consist of 12-14 weeks of core training in physical fitness, firefighting, rescue, extrication, hazardous materials and EMS skills. At completion, each will have the training to perform all of the above tasks as well as be a certified First Responders and Haz-mat certified at the operations level. “I am excited about having this group of men join the department. We have been stretched thin for the last few years and this group will help tremendously toward adequately staffing the Fire Department. They all seem to be fitting in well and adjusting to the career of firefighting,” said Chief Steve Haun.
