Jenkins named to Wofford College’s Dean’s List

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Dr. David S. Wood, senior vice president of academic affairs and dean of Wofford College, has announced the Dean’s List students for the Spring 2011 Semester, including Kristen Alexandra Jenkins of Cleveland.

To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must be enrolled for at least 12 semester hours of graded courses and attain a semester grade-point average of 3.6 or higher.

Wofford College, established in 1854, is an independent liberal arts college of 1,500 students in Spartanburg, S.C. Wofford ranks 9th nationally in the percentage of undergraduates receiving credit for study abroad.

Jason Wesley Newman Green of Bluefield, W.Va., graduated on June 4, from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Va., with the doctor of osteopathic medicine degree.

Dr. Green received his undergraduate degree from East Tennessee State University. He is the son of Samuel and Judy Green of Charleston.

Green completed four years of an intense medical school coursework, which included two years of biomedical courses, and two years of clinical experiences at hospitals in Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

He will complete an internship at Bluefield Regional Medical Center in Bluefield, W.Va., and plans to complete a residency in internal medicine with further subspecialization in gastroenterology or cardiology.

Doctors of osteopathic medicine, or D.O.’s, are licensed in every state to practice the full scope of medicine and surgery, using the most current scientific knowledge to promote health and prevention and to diagnose and treat patients with disease.

Isabella Lines recognized by Achievement Academy

Isabella Liner, who attends Walker Valley High School, was recently recognized by the U.S. Achievement Academy as a student of excellence in physical education.

Liner was nominated by Karen Slater, a teacher at the school. She will appear in the U.S. Achievement Academy’s official yearbook.

“Recognizing and supporting our youth is more important than ever before in America’s history. Certainly, U.S. Achievement Academy students should be congratulated and appreciated for their dedication toe excellence and achievement,” said Dr. George Stevens, founder of the academy.

Isabella is the daughter of Steve and Kathy Liner of Cleveland. She is the granddaughter of Floyd and Dianne Wade of Cleveland and Junior and Isabelle Eaves of Calhoun.
