The Rev. John W. Smith and Slyvila Harris were married Feb. 14, 1956. They were honored at a luncheon reception for their 55th wedding anniversary given by their children and grandchildren at Charity Baptist Church, at which he was a former pastor. They are the parents of Bill W. Smith, Teresa C. Richmond, Steve D. Smith and a foster son, Hartwell Bowbly.
