He was a very involved member of Maple Street Baptist Church. He graduated from Tennessee Tech University with a bachelor of science degree in Computer Science in 2001 and was employed with Lee University.
He is survived by his wife, April Swafford Matthews; sons: Aaron Matthews, Alan Matthews, and Austin Matthews, all of Cleveland; parents, the Rev. Danny Matthews and Carolyn Crosby Matthews of Dandridge; paternal grandmother, Wilma Jean Justice and husband, Ernest, of Seymour; maternal grandmother, Eva “Mickey” Crosby of Morristown; brother, Chris Matthews and wife Michelle, of McMinnville; sister, Nina Fields of Chattanooga; two nephews: Brian Matthews and Drew Matthews; niece, Sydney Matthews, all of McMinnville; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Danny and Deborah Swafford of Old Fort; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jeff and Heidi Swafford of Old Fort.
The funeral will be held at Noon, Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Sam Blankenship and Pastor Bryan Mowery officiating.
Aaron Looney, Nate Tucker, Jeff Swafford, Edwin Curtis, Rocky Casteel and Jesse Houle will serve as pallbearers.
Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
