Charles “Gene” Sliger, 88, of Apison, passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2012.

He attended Pine Hill Presbyterian Church.

He was retired from Cleveland Chair after 20 years of service.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in France and Germany.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Sliger; parents, Arthur and Florene Sliger; two brothers: Maurice B. Sliger and Jack M. Sliger; and three sisters: Ellen Housley, Peggy Johnson and Thyra Cook.

Survivors include his daughter, Joyce (Steve) Carle of Dade City, Fla.; two grandsons: Andy Carle and Jonathan Carle; three brothers: James F. Sliger of McDonald, Robert L. Sliger of Cleveland and Hubert Sliger of McDonald; two sisters: Elizabeth Wilson of Ooltewah and Barbara Howard of McDonald; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Russ Maroon officiating.

Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
