Chatata Valley hosts junior golfers

The Tennessee Golf Association Junior Tour made a stop at Cleveland’s Chatata Valley Golf Course Thursday.

Several local juniors had success at the local course with winning efforts.

Cleveland’s Jake McCracken was the winner in the 8-9 boys micro division with a 42 for his nine holes, finishing six strokes ahead of the runner-up score. Katie Medley of Cleveland was the winner in girls’ 11-14 play with a 43 and a three-shot edge over the second-place finisher.

Kassey Gregg of Cleveland topped the girls’ 15-18 event with a 94.

Once again, young Cade Puryear of Athens was outstanding in boys 10-11 micro play. Puryear fired a 5-under-par 31 around the Chatata Valley course. Gage Brakebill of Cleveland tied for third with a 43, while Kyle West of Charleston was fifth.

Four Cleveland golfers placed in the boys 10-13 competition. Allen Swetman tied Carter Pendley of Dalton, Ga., Tanner Harris of Athens and Carlton Stevenson of Chattanooga for the top award in the boys’ event with matching 41s.

Hunter Carroll and Chase Montgomery, both of Cleveland, tied for second in boys’ 14-15 play with matching 81s for 18 holes, one stroke behind winner Cody Hampton of Madisonville.

Jake Burrows finished in sixth place in the boys’ 16-18 competition.

Several local girls placed in 11-14 competition. Katie Medley won the division by three strokes with her 43. Gina Williams of Cleveland had a 53, Olivia Lee of Cleveland shot a 58 and Lilly Cross and Heather Ellis, both of Benton, had a 61 and 66 respectively.

In girls’ 8-11 micro competition, Rheagan Hall of Charleston was second with a 48. Danielle Bates of Benton fired a 52 for fourth place, while Kaylee Gregg of Cleveland was fifth with a 54 and Grace Medley of Cleveland added a 64 for ninth.
