BEREA, KY. — With Jessica Childers and Cayce Bryan leading the way, the Lee women's cross country team finished a strong third in the annual Southeastern Cross Country Classic on Saturday morning (Oct. 20).

Childers and Bryan placed eighth and ninth running times of 19:29 and 19:35 in a field of 97 runners from 10 different schools. The twosome had plenty of support from their teammates.

Storyie Miller placed 17th with a time of 20:19, beating a personal best by 17 seconds. Alexis Hewitt placed 30th (20:50). Carissa Zabor stepped up big for the Lady Flames, running her first race of the season and finishing as the 5th runner for the team. She placed 41st (21:27). Rounding out the top seven were Rachel Waltz (21:40) placing 44th, and Emily Arneson (22:09) placing 54th.

Centre College won the team competition, while University of the Cumberlands placed second. Sharon Ronoh, the top runner in the NAIA, won the women's individual title with a time of 17:26.

The Lady Flames will be back in action on Nov. 3 at the Southern States Athletic meet in Jackson, Miss. They will be trying to win their second conference title in three years, which will earn the team a trip to the national championship.
