Chriso Lorraine Matsatsos New Martin, 82, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, in a local hospital.
She was born in Mooresville, N.C., on Feb. 13, 1931, a daughter of the late Peter and Margaret Matsatsos.
She lived in Danville, Va., most of her life and had recently relocated to Cleveland.
She was a devoted mother and homemaker most of her life, and also served as a sitter for the elderly for several years. She was a faithful member of Immanuel Kingdom Praise and Worship Center in Danville, where she sang in the choir and held the distinction of “Church Mother.”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Stamma Matsatsos Cox and Margaret Matsatsos Beckner; and one brother, Mack Matsatsos. She was also preceded in death by Robert Douglas New and Melvin Meade Martin.
Cherishing her memory include her daughter and son-in-law, Julie New Wheeler and Donald Richard Wheeler; her grandchildren: Daniel Wheeler and his wife, Courtney, Destiny Wheeler and Joshua Wheeler; and her great-grandchildren: Christian Wheeler and Lexi Kate Wheeler.
A Remembrance of Life service will be held today, Feb. 26, 2013, at 4 p.m. in the Dixon Chapel of North Cleveland Church of God with Pastor Cy Harris and Pastor Craig Mosgrove officiating.
Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Daniel Wheeler, Joshua Wheeler, Mike Davis, Gabe Clayton, Mitchell Owens, Drake Reece and Trent Arrington serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 3 to the service time at 4 p.m. in the Dixon Chapel of North Cleveland Church of God.
