Cleveland Finance Department personnel accept the Government Finance Officers Association Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting on Tuesday. Accepting the award are city auditor Mark Lay, Arnett, Kirksey, Kimsey, Sullivan, Lay and Hall; Mayor Tom Rowland, accountant Amy Newman, Finance Director William Watson, City Manager Janice Casteel and Assistant City Manager Melinda Carroll. The award was received for comprehensive annual financial reporting for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011. This is the 24th consecutive year and 27th overall that the city has received the award for publishing an easily read and efficiently organized CAFR. The report satisfied both Generally Accepted Principles and applicable legal requirements. The standardized format used for the CAFR makes it much easier to compare Cleveland to itself from year to year, and to other cities and counties across the U.S. and Canada, where the GFOA standards are utilized for financial reporting.
