The talented CMS Junior Varsity dancers won first place in JV Pom and first place in JV Hip-Hop. CMS JV dancers are Brooke Davis, Brae Clayton, Hannah Graig, Hannah Shackleford, Makayla Temple, Tiffany Croft, Claire Gilliland, Allison McGinnis, Taylor Parker, Alexa Witt, Laney Brown (captain), Monique Mee, Emily Campbell, Caroline Owens, McKenzie Senters and Reese Cavitt. CMS Junior Varsity dance coach is Tenlie Logsdon. She is assisted at practices by Erin Cooper and Blaire Brooks.
The judges in the competition described these young dancers as “very entertaining and tons of fun!” Coach Owens describes the JV Dance Team as “extremely improved, eager to learn, and excited to become award-winning CMS Varsity Raiderettes next year!”
In the Heritage Invitational Dance Competition, the CMS Varsity Dance Team defeated Hunter Middle School from Ooltewah and Heritage Middle School from Ringgold to become champions in Junior High Hip-Hop, Junior High Pom and Junior High Jazz. The CMS Varsity Hip-Hop routine also brought home the coveted “Best Crowd Appeal Award” defeating 15 other dance teams for this title. CMS Varsity Raiderettes are Chloe Baggett (captain), Adria Smith, Josey McCluskey, Mallory Gumm, Jessica Johnson, Teya Kelsey, Tehya Dyer, India Wilkins, Julia Holt Ledford, Elizabeth Owens, Cassie Jones, Anna Craig, Narissa Riley, Madison Eschenbrenner, Jordan Kidd, Courtney Hamilton, Maya Sharma, Cassidy Johnson, Emma Brusky, Sarah Emily Sentell, Alex Paladian, Jessica Davis, Riley Calandrino and Taylor Allison. Makya Davis is a member of the CMS Varsity Game Squad.
The judges described this team as “having great unison, amazing energy, and very entertaining!” The judges also mentioned that the girls had “nice split leaps, great toe touches, and creative tricks and stunts!”
Head coach of the CMS Dance Team is Kelly Ann Owens. Assistant coach is Tonya Cawood. Team choreographer is Susan Dyer.
The CMS Varsity Dance Team is made of fierce competitors with tremendous talent. They are very hard workers who not only have the drive to be champions but succeed in becoming champions. “On one of the Varsity’s hip-hop scoresheets, a judge scored the Raiderettes with a 100 out of 100!” Owens said. “I can’t ask for more effort than that! I am honored to coach such an award-winning team!”
Besides competing, the CMS Dance Raiderettes recently danced at halftime at a Lee University girls’ basketball game, and at a Cleveland High School Varsity boys’ basketball game. Tryouts for the 2013-14 season will be May 6-9 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at CMS.
