Cleveland State Community College Veterans Affairs Department, along with the Social Work Club, will co-sponsor a Veterans Day ceremony again this year on the main campus Monday, Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. in front of the L. Quentin Lane Gymnasium.

The event will give honor and recognition to those members of CSCC’s faculty, staff, student body, as well as community members who have served and who are serving in the armed forces.

“The students always look forward to Veterans Day and honoring our troops, past and present, stated Jana Pankey, associate professor of the social work program. Our club decided to collect socks and cleansing wet wipes to send to the U.S. troops in Afghanistan. Some student veterans and family members who are enrolled at Cleveland State expressed a need that the active soldiers have regarding new socks and wipes. These items are not regularly supplied by the military, so the students thought this would be the perfect opportunity to give something to them and to let the troops know we care and appreciate their service and sacrifice.”

The program will include musical entertainment by CSCC’s small group ensemble Vocal Rhapsody, presentation of the colors by Bradley Central’s ROTC program and CSCC President Carl Hite will provide the welcome. Representatives from all members of the military will be present for the ceremony. In addition, Cleveland State’s Campus Kitchen will be providing one free drink to anyone who is a veteran on the day of the Veteran’s Day event.

“We always look forward to this event where we can honor our veterans, both at CSCC and in the community,” stated Ray Goad, Veterans Affairs Coordinator. “You cannot have freedom without sacrifice!”

The community is invited to attend. For more information on the Veteran’s Day event, contact Ray Goad at (423) 472-7141, ext. 265.
