The Cleveland Blue Raiders are hosting a reunion for anyone involved with Blue Raiders baseball, April 25 before the game with Sale Creek.
Former baseball coach Duane Schriver said he hopes as many former players as possible, and anyone else involved with Blue Raiders baseball, will come out.
“We are having an alumni reunion for anyone who has ever played baseball at Cleveland High School. We are going way back to the 1960s. Anyone who has ever been involved, whether it’s a player, coach, parent, bat girl, scorekeeper, anybody with a connection to the baseball program is invited to come out,” Schriver said of the upcoming get-together.
He also stated organizers are relying more on word of mouth this time around to get the news out about the reunion.
“Hopefully, people will pass it on to people they see or will let them know what we are planning,” he said.
Schriver also pointed out the Blue Raiders hope to make the reunion an annual event.
Everyone planning to attend is asked to come to Raider field between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. The group will be recognized prior to the game.
“We are going to meet in the home bleachers to get emails, addresses and phone numbers so we can keep building on it in the future. We are going to make it an annual event. We want to kind of get back in touch and get a little camaraderie going,” Schriver stated. “It seems like once you’ve gone, you lose touch. We want them to know they are important to us, even though it has been 40-something years.”
The idea for a baseball assemblage stems from the success Blue Raiders wrestlers enjoyed in December when former athletes, teammates and others involved with the wrestling program gathered to reconnect and remember old times.
“We want to get this started like we did with our wrestling reunion in December. We had a good turnout,” Schriver declared. “The first year is always the most difficult. But, I think we will be able to build on it and get more people involved. Those from way back really enjoyed the one from wrestling. They got to see people they had not seen in a long time”
